Roll-off dumpster rental in Delavan
Approx. 22 road miles east of Janesville, around 35 minutes — County O to Highway 11 and Highway 14, then east.
Delavan is Highway 11 and Highway 14 east from the yard, about 35 minutes, and usually next morning — same afternoon when a truck is already heading east. It is the fastest-growing of our Walworth County towns, up 10.4% since 2020 to 9,387, and sits between Delavan Lake and Comus Lake.
There is no city-wide garbage service: §8-3-26 has every resident contract separately with a private hauler, and §8-3-7 licenses the haulers, including a Grade 2 licence for occasional construction and demolition work. We explain plainly below what that means for a container.
Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Delavan
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Delavan Lake — 1,906 acres, 52 feet deep, four boat landings and a beach; Comus Lake (131 acres) sits on the north edge of the city.
- No city garbage truck — residents and owners contract their own licensed hauler, Monday to Friday on the hauler's schedule.
- Fast-growing and affordable — up 10.4% since 2020, with a median home value of $218,800 against $343,800 in Lake Geneva.
- 21.8% Hispanic or Latino (Census) — ask and we will walk the booking through in Spanish-friendly plain terms.
- Mallard Ridge Landfill on State Road 11 in the Town of Delavan is the nearest licensed landfill to the whole Walworth County run.
How we reach Delavan
Highway 11 and Highway 14 east from the yard straight into town; I-43 passes to the north. Usually next morning.
Areas we cover in and around Delavan

- The Comus Lake north side

What comes out of Delavan properties
Lake-cottage gut jobs, kitchens, baths and roofs in 15s and 20s, teardowns and whole-house cleanouts in 20s and 30s. Code §8-3-24 defines a bulky item as anything over 4 feet or 80 pounds and leaves pickup to the hauler's discretion; §8-3-26(b)(3) makes contractors and landscapers responsible for removing their own debris, "contracted for separately." A razing permit (§15-1-10) requires all debris hauled away at the end of each week, which is a swap schedule, not a pile.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Delavan
Right-of-way: §6-2-5(a) bars encroaching on any street, alley or sidewalk. §6-2-5(b) allows building materials stored for a period the Director of Public Works authorizes, and §6-2-6 is a Street Privilege Permit through the Public Works Committee or Director for construction or demolition materials in a street, alley or sidewalk — liability insurance naming the City, a fee set by the Council plus actual City costs, no more than a third of the street, lit at night, up to 30 days from the Director and longer only from the Council, lapsing at three months. Dumpsters are not named. The driveway is the simple answer.
Who may haul — the rule that matters: §8-3-7(a)(1) says no hauling "without first obtaining from the City a license to so do"; licences run by calendar year with fees set by the Common Council (not published), and Grade 2 covers occasional haulers on "specific demolition, construction or other projects" who must arrange recycling of C&D recyclables (§8-3-7(c)(2)(b)). §8-3-24 requires loaded roll-offs in transit to be covered and dumpsters to carry an ownership label with a phone number; operating unlicensed is a $20 to $1,000 fine. The City licenses haulers, and we hold our Delavan licence.
Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.
How it works
Booking a dumpster in Delavan
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
- 1
Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the container needs to sit, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No forms, no waiting on an email.
- 2
We size it and quote it flat
You get one number covering delivery, the 7-day rental, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is shingles or concrete, we say up front that it needs its own box.
- 3
Delivered where you want it
The driver walks the spot with you and sets the container square on the driveway, lot or job site, boards under the rails. Same-day in Janesville if you called before noon.
- 4
Load at your own pace
Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out — tires, appliances, electronics, batteries, oil, yard waste in a mixed load. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.
- 5
We haul it and sort it right
Clean concrete, brick and brush go to the Clean Fill Facility, appliances and metal to the landfill's recycling areas, and the rest to the licensed landfill for that county. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Delavan — common questions
Is Delavan same-day or next-day?
Usually next morning — about 35 minutes east on Highway 11. Afternoon runs east happen most days, so ask.
Can a dumpster sit in the street in Delavan?
Only under a Street Privilege Permit through Public Works, with insurance, a fee and a 30-day limit from the Director. The driveway needs no permit.
Does Delavan restrict who can supply a roll-off?
Yes — §8-3-7 requires a City hauler licence, with a Grade 2 class for construction and demolition work. We hold our Delavan licence.
Where does a Delavan load get tipped?
Mallard Ridge Landfill on State Road 11 in the Town of Delavan is licensed for full C&D loads but publishes no gate fees; the Janesville landfill is $46 a ton. We route by what is in the box and price it flat either way.
