Roll-off dumpster rental in Janesville

The yard is inside the city — 1741 Adel Street in the 53546 ZIP on the south side. City Hall on North Jackson Street is about 3 miles and 8 minutes away, and the Black Bridge Road landfill is a short run up Highway 51.

Janesville is where the trucks start every morning. The yard at 1741 Adel St sits on the south side, which puts Downtown, Look West and the Old Fourth Ward a few minutes away and the far north end around a quarter of an hour. A call before noon is usually an afternoon container anywhere in the city.

The work covers the whole range: kitchens, baths and roofs on the older streets either side of the Rock River, garage and estate cleanouts, apartment turnovers, and commercial fit-outs along Milton Avenue and the Highway 51 corridor. Whatever comes out, it tips at the City landfill on Black Bridge Road — the only licensed landfill in Rock County — so we know its rules by heart.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Janesville

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • The Rock County seat — the courthouse is at 51 South Main Street, and the city covers about 34 square miles across the 53545, 53546 and 53548 ZIPs.
  • Look West and the Old Fourth Ward — the historic residential neighborhoods west of the Rock River next to Downtown, with Monterey Park, Fourth Ward Park and Washington Park among them, and the River Bend redevelopment area and the Five Points interchange nearby.
  • The City collects its own household carts (blue lid trash, gray lid recycling) from homes of four units or fewer — but it publishes no bulky-item pickup, so furniture, appliances and renovation debris go to the landfill or into a container.
  • The Janesville Sanitary Landfill at 525 Black Bridge Road is city-owned and the county's main tip; the Compost Site and Clean Fill Facility sit next to it, just east of Highway 51.
  • Hauling hours are set by ordinance — trash collection and hauling in residential zones only between 6 am and 9 pm (ord. 30-63(d)), which is why we schedule residential drops in daylight.

How we reach Janesville

From the yard on Adel Street, Highway 51 (Center Avenue) runs north through the middle of the city to the landfill and Highway 26 (Milton Avenue); Highway 11 crosses east–west on the south side; I-39/90 runs up the east side; Highway 14 heads north-west out of town. Same-day anywhere in the city when you call before noon.

What comes out of Janesville properties

Kitchens, baths, flooring and roofs in 15s and 20s, whole-house cleanouts in 20s and 30s, and a 10 loaded level for concrete, brick and dirt. The City's own list of what the carts will not take is long: appliances, auto parts, furniture, concrete, demolition and building debris, dirt, gravel, sand, stone, electronics, tires, yard waste. There is no curbside bulky pickup, and bagged yard waste is collected only twice a year — spring 4 to 8 May 2026 and fall 30 November to 4 December 2026 — so anything bigger than a bag is container work.

One thing to know before you load a roofing job: the City landfill has refused asphalt shingles since 2012 (ord. 30-37(a)(10)), and it also refuses concrete, asphalt, yard waste and cardboard in a mixed load. Clean concrete, brick and unpainted lumber go to the Clean Fill Facility next door instead at $6 a cubic yard for Janesville residents and $8 for everyone else. Tell us what is going in and we will put it in the right box.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Janesville

On your own driveway or lot: no City permit found. Boards go under the rails as standard. Ord. 22-5 treats wood, brick, cement blocks and other debris piled on a lot as a nuisance unless it is out of public view, so load the container rather than the lawn, and ord. 22-81 wants business containers in commercial zones covered and secured.

In a street, alley, sidewalk or terrace: yes, a permit is needed. Ord. 34-173 bars obstructing or occupying any public street, alley or sidewalk without authorization, and the City publishes a Dumpster Permit Application through its Building and Planning Divisions (Building Division, City Hall, 18 North Jackson Street, 3rd floor, (608) 755-3060). It allows a two-week maximum, the dumpster owner applies — that is us, not you — and the conditions are: company name on the dumpster; not in a traffic lane; off the public way during a snow emergency until plowing is done; not in an illegal parking spot (15 ft from crosswalks, 10 ft from hydrants, 4 ft from driveway approaches); flush to the curb and no more than 8 ft into the roadway; 60 ft back from any cross-street curb line; a Type II or III barricade or traffic drum with a flashing yellow light on the traffic side; and in alleys 11 ft left clear with both ends marked and no fire exits blocked. No fee for it appears in the City's fee schedule — ask when you book and we will confirm.

Who may haul: Janesville has no general waste-hauler licence or exclusive franchise for roll-off and commercial containers — the City collects household carts itself and leaves containers to private haulers. The only City hauler permit is ord. 30-42, an annual City Clerk permit to tip at the City landfill by hire ($110 first vehicle, $60 each additional, renewed by 30 June), on top of the state DNR collection and transportation licence any hauler moving more than 20 tons a year must hold. Loads must be covered on the road (ord. 30-43). Knocking a building down needs a Building Division demolition permit — $132 for a residential structure.

Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Janesville

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the container needs to sit, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No forms, no waiting on an email.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the 7-day rental, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is shingles or concrete, we say up front that it needs its own box.

  3. 3

    Delivered where you want it

The driver walks the spot with you and sets the container square on the driveway, lot or job site, boards under the rails. Same-day in Janesville if you called before noon.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out — tires, appliances, electronics, batteries, oil, yard waste in a mixed load. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and sort it right

Clean concrete, brick and brush go to the Clean Fill Facility, appliances and metal to the landfill's recycling areas, and the rest to the licensed landfill for that county. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Janesville — common questions

How fast can you deliver in Janesville?

Call (608) 530-0711 before noon and it is usually on your driveway that afternoon. The yard is inside the city, so there is no long haul to plan around.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster on my driveway in Janesville?

We found no City rule requiring one on private property. A street, alley, sidewalk or terrace placement needs the City's Dumpster Permit through the Building Division (608-755-3060), two weeks maximum, with a barricade and flashing light on the traffic side — and the rental company has to be the applicant, so tell us and we will handle it.

Can the City's cart or a bulky pickup take my renovation debris?

No. The carts exclude furniture, appliances, concrete, building debris, dirt and electronics, and Janesville publishes no bulky-item pickup at all. A container takes it this week.

Can I put shingles or concrete in a Janesville dumpster?

Not in a mixed load — the City landfill refuses asphalt shingles, concrete and asphalt. Concrete, brick and clean lumber go to the Clean Fill Facility at $6 to $8 a cubic yard, so a roofing or slab job gets its own container. Tell us the job and we will size and route it properly.
