Roll-off dumpster rental in Whitewater

Approx. 20 road miles north-east of Janesville, around 33 minutes — Highway 11 to Highway 26, then Highway 59 east into town.

Whitewater is Highway 26 and Highway 59 from the yard, about 33 minutes, and usually next morning — same afternoon when a truck is already heading east. The city sits across the Walworth and Jefferson county line and is dominated by UW-Whitewater, which welcomed its largest freshman class in a decade in fall 2025 with 12,075 students enrolled.

Only 31.8% of homes are owner-occupied (Census), so the work is landlord turnovers, August move-out cleanouts and multi-unit renovations alongside the kitchens and roofs of the owner-occupied streets. The city truck will not touch construction debris, and commercial properties must use private haulers.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Whitewater

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • UW-Whitewater — 12,075 students in fall 2025, 11,303 of them on the Whitewater campus, and a freshman class of 2,459.
  • A renter-majority city — 31.8% owner-occupied, a very young age profile and a large student-rental stock with annual turnover.
  • John's Disposal is headquartered here at 107 County Road U and collects the city's carts on Thursdays, with bulky items on the second Thursday of the month.
  • Two counties — the city straddles Walworth and Jefferson, which also matters for which landfill a load heads to.
  • A new razing ordinance (Chapter 14.17, May 2026) wants a debris disposal and transport plan on major teardowns — paperwork we can supply.

How we reach Whitewater

What comes out of Whitewater properties

Apartment and rental turnovers in 15s and 20s, kitchens, baths and roofs on the owner-occupied streets, and multi-unit renovation work in 20s and 30s. Code 8.28.010(d) lists what the city will not collect — "earth, sod, rocks, concrete, and refuse from remodeling or construction of homes" — and 8.29.090 (October 2025) bars construction and demolition materials such as stone, concrete, lumber, roofing, earth or sod at the curb. The monthly bulky day is for items too big for the cart, not a tear-out.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Whitewater

Right-of-way: Code 12.08.010 bars placing stone, brick, timber, lumber or "any thing or substance whatever" on a street, alley, gutter, sidewalk or public ground ($25 to $250). The exception at 12.08.020 lets building material sit in the street in front of the lot for not more than ten days — no more than half the sidewalk or a third of the carriageway, gutters clear — with a written extension from the City Manager of up to six months, and $2 per 24 hours after expiry. No permit fee is published; Public Works is on 262-473-0560. On your own property, 8.24.010 wants containers screened from the street, so the driveway behind the house line or the back of the lot is best.

Who may haul: no city hauler licence was found in the business or health titles. Code 8.28.020 reserves residential cart collection to the city and its contractor, and 8.28.040 says commercial and industrial properties are served by private contractors and excluded from the ordinance. Our Whitewater loads are covered on the road; depending on the side of town they tip at the Janesville landfill ($46 a ton), or at a DNR-licensed private landfill — Mallard Ridge in Delavan (GFL) or Deer Track Park in Watertown (WM), neither of which publishes its gate fees.

Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Whitewater

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the container needs to sit, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No forms, no waiting on an email.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the 7-day rental, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is shingles or concrete, we say up front that it needs its own box.

  3. 3

    Delivered where you want it

The driver walks the spot with you and sets the container square on the driveway, lot or job site, boards under the rails. Same-day in Janesville if you called before noon.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out — tires, appliances, electronics, batteries, oil, yard waste in a mixed load. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and sort it right

Clean concrete, brick and brush go to the Clean Fill Facility, appliances and metal to the landfill's recycling areas, and the rest to the licensed landfill for that county. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Whitewater — common questions

Is Whitewater same-day or next-day?

Usually next morning — about 33 minutes up Highway 26 and 59. Afternoon runs east happen most days, so ask.

Can a dumpster sit in the street in Whitewater?

As building material, for up to ten days in front of the lot, with a written City Manager extension beyond that. The driveway needs no permit, but the code wants containers screened from the street.

Does Whitewater restrict who can supply a roll-off?

No city hauler licence was found. Residential carts belong to the city's contractor; commercial properties and containers are a private matter.

Can I put remodel debris out on bulky day?

No. The code names earth, sod, rocks, concrete and remodeling refuse as not collected, and bars construction materials at the curb. A container takes it.
