Everything people ask before they book

If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the city will fine you, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (608) 530-0711 — a real person in Janesville will answer it.

Part 1

Pricing

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Janesville?

A flat rate quoted on the phone for the size you need, covering delivery, pickup, a 7-day rental and the included tonnage — 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30, 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over is charged per ton at the landfill rate. Call for a firm number for your address.

Is delivery and pickup included in the price?

Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No fuel surcharge, no pickup fee.

What causes extra charges?

Three things: going over the included weight (per ton at the landfill rate — $46 a ton at the Janesville landfill in 2026), keeping the container past the rental window, and prohibited items found in the load. We explain all three on the first call so there is nothing to find later.

Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or roofing?

Not more per se — but dense material uses up the included tonnage fast, and the Janesville landfill refuses concrete and shingles in a mixed load, so we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level, in its own box) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit and debit cards. Payment is taken when the booking is confirmed to secure the delivery; repeat commercial clients can ask about ongoing service plans.

Part 2

Sizing

What size dumpster do I need?

A 10 for a bathroom or a garage, a 15 for a kitchen or flooring, a 20 for a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel, a 30 for a renovation to the studs or a big roof, a 40 for commercial demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.

What happens if I order too small?

You pay for a second haul, which costs more than the step up to the next size would have. When in doubt, size up — or describe the job and let us size it.

What is the biggest dumpster you offer?

A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.

How full can I fill it?

Level with the top rail. Anything above the rail cannot be tarped or transported safely or legally, and the driver will have to leave it or ask you to unload it.

How much does a roof tear-off produce?

A 20 yard handles a normal single-layer tear-off; double layers want a 30 for the higher weight allowance. Either way shingles get their own box — the Janesville landfill has refused asphalt shingles since 2012 and we route them to a facility that takes them.

Part 3

Permits, placement and town rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?

On your own driveway or private property in Janesville, we found no City rule requiring one. In a street, alley, sidewalk or terrace the City requires a Dumpster Permit through the Building Division at City Hall, 18 N Jackson St (608-755-3060) — two weeks maximum, barricade and flashing light, off the street in a snow emergency. The container owner applies, so we file it. Other towns differ — Beloit bars obstructions with no permit route, Stoughton names a dumpster as an obstruction needing a permit, Fort Atkinson has an online exemption form — so check your town page.

Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?

In Janesville, only under the City's Dumpster Permit: not in a traffic lane, flush to the curb and no more than 8 feet into the road, 60 feet back from any cross street, 15 feet from crosswalks, 10 feet from hydrants, 4 feet from driveway approaches, and removed during a snow emergency until plowing is done. Allow days, not hours. Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.

Why do some of your town pages say the town licenses haulers?

Because they do. Beloit (ord. 17.50), Delavan (§8-3-7), Elkhorn (11.06(15)) and Monroe (§8-3-6) require a town hauler licence to collect or haul solid waste inside their limits — Elkhorn and Delavan with a Grade 2 class for construction and demolition work. Janesville itself has no hauler licence beyond its annual landfill permit. We quote the section on each page and tell you where your job stands.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

Boards go under the rails as standard on paved drives. The driver will tell you before delivery if a surface needs more, and will steer you off soft gravel or lawn in the spring thaw.

What about snow and ice?

The drop spot needs to be plowed before the truck arrives, and a Janesville street placement has to come off the street during a snow emergency — that is a condition of the City's permit. On a driveway, keep a path to the door clear and the container is fine through the winter.

How much space does the truck need?

A straight, level run of about 60 feet and 25 feet of overhead clearance. Low branches and power lines are the usual problem.

Part 4

Booking and delivery

How do I book a dumpster?

Call (608) 530-0711. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.

How fast can you deliver?

Same-day in Janesville, Beloit, Milton, Edgerton, Clinton, Orfordville and Footville when you call before noon; next morning for most of the Walworth, Jefferson, Dane and Green County towns.

What are your hours?

24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number. Deliveries and pickups in Janesville residential zones happen between 6 am and 9 pm, which the City requires.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

7 days as standard. Call or text before the pickup date and we extend it at a daily rate. Janesville's street permit caps a street placement at two weeks; Fort Atkinson caps a driveway container at 30 days; Elkhorn wants a permit after 14 days on a driveway.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and trailers, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup.

Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?

Yes. Staggered deliveries and swaps across several sites are routine for contractors and property managers.

Part 5

Service area

What towns do you serve?

Janesville, Beloit, Milton, Edgerton, Evansville, Clinton, Orfordville and Footville in Rock County; Whitewater, Fort Atkinson, Delavan, Elkhorn and Lake Geneva to the east; Stoughton and Oregon to the north; Brodhead and Monroe to the west — each with its own page.

Where is Sameday Dumpster Janesville based?

At 1741 Adel St, Janesville, WI 53546, on the south side of Janesville.

Is service different in the far towns?

Only the timing and where the load tips. Lake Geneva, Monroe, Oregon and Elkhorn are 45 to 56 minutes from the yard and next-morning rather than same-day. Same flat pricing, possibly a small distance adjustment said up front.

Do some towns restrict who can deliver a roll-off?

Yes — Beloit, Delavan, Elkhorn and Monroe license haulers by ordinance. Each town page says what that town's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.

Part 6

What we take

What can I put in a dumpster?

Household junk and furniture, construction debris (wood, drywall, flooring, siding), roofing shingles in their own box, metal, plastic, and concrete, brick or tile in a container loaded level and kept separate. Yard waste in its own box too.

What can't go in a dumpster?

Wisconsin bans tires, major appliances, electronics, lead-acid batteries, waste oil and oil filters, yard waste and cardboard, cans, bottles and paper from the landfill. Add paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks, chemicals, medical waste and asbestos. The Janesville landfill also refuses asphalt shingles, concrete and asphalt in a mixed load. The guides say where each of those goes instead.

Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?

No. The DNR requires an asbestos inspection before demolition or renovation, and a notice at least 10 working days before demolishing a commercial building; 1-to-4-unit homes are typically exempt from the notice but not from the rule that a licensed abatement contractor handles the material.

Can I put concrete or dirt in a regular dumpster?

In a 10 yard loaded level, and in its own box — the Janesville landfill refuses concrete in a mixed load and sends it to the Clean Fill Facility at $6 to $8 a cubic yard. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it exceeds the weight the truck can lift.

Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?

Mattresses, yes. Appliances, no — they are banned from Wisconsin landfills. We take them to the landfill's recycling area instead: $15 each for fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and microwaves, free for washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters.

What happens to the debris after pickup?

Clean concrete, brick, brush and unpainted lumber go to the Janesville Clean Fill Facility; appliances, metal and tires to the landfill's recycling areas; mixed debris to the licensed landfill for that county — Janesville for Rock County, Rodefeld for Dane, Green County Landfill for Monroe and Brodhead. Nothing goes to a random dump.
